The Nigerian Association of Industrial and Organisational Psychologists (NAIOP) was formally established during the Annual Scientific Conference and AGM of the Nigeria Psychological Association held at Precious Palm Royal Hotels, Benin City, Nigeria on Wednesday, 25th November, 2015. Since then the NAIOP has continued to build on its main purpose – enhancing employee wellbeing and performance. In that conference alone, the division established different platforms (see below) to ensure that her members were always in communication and could easily get information from the leadership of the division.

Professor Benjamin Osayawe Ehigie was elected as President of the Division, while Dr. Anthony Nnedum was elected as Secretary. Other officers include Dr. Richards Ebeh (Publicity Secretary) and Dr. Aondoaver Ucho (Financial Secretary).
As fallout of the meeting at Awka, the Division agreed to hold a maiden I/O Psychology Conference and General Meeting at the University of Ibadan in 2017. The conference which was held between 19th – 22nd July, 2017 recorded remarkable success both in attendance and contribution of scientific papers for the advancement of I/O Psychology in Nigeria. Plans for the 2018 NAIOP Conference and General Meeting was scheduled for Benue State University, Makurdi at the 2017 Conference.
The Division subsequently commenced and standardized requirements for attaining membership. The Foundation Membership certificates and plaques were presented to the NAIOP’s first crop of registered members during the Annual Scientific Conference and AGM of the Nigeria Psychological Association held later in the year 2017 at Abuja.
